Guide to Buying Body Armor
To make sure you choose the best body armor for your needs, there are several things you should consider before making a purchase.
To help you choose the right body armor, keep the following in mind:
Identify threats you may encounter
Do you anticipate a ballistic (bullet) threat? Are you likely to have to deal with people with sharp weapons and need to wear extra stab / spike resistant body armor? These are important issues to consider, as bulletproof vests may not be stab and nail resistant. Remember to consider all threat levels before purchasing body armor to ensure the level of protection you buy is right for your needs.
Determine how your armor will be worn
Do you prefer to wear your body armor under your clothes (covert) or over your clothes (overt)? Does your armor need pockets? Do you want it fixed in any particular way? You should also consider whether you need high-visibility or water-resistant body armor.
Order the correct vest for your gender
Gender is very important when ordering vests. Where possible, women should order women's tank tops. Women's tank tops are ergonomically shaped to fit the female body and may be a better and safer choice for women.
remember your height
Your vest should fit your height and should not be too long or too short. For the vest to fit, it should reach your navel. A common misconception is that protective armor should go up to the waist, which is incorrect and can be harmful. A tank top that is too long can make it difficult to perform everyday activities such as sitting, bending and reaching.
Our recommendations for choosing the correct length are as follows:
If you are 5'8 or shorter, it may be best to order the vest in the length "short".
If you are between 5'8 and 6' tall, it may be best to order the vest in a "standard" length.
If you are over 6 feet tall, ordering the vest in length "Long" may be the best fit.
be realistic
It is not always necessary to order the vest with the highest level of protection. Vests that offer a higher level of protection are heavier than those with a lower level of protection, which can cause the wearer to feel uncomfortable and take their vest off. If you plan to wear body armor on a regular basis, your comfort is paramount. Only order the protection you actually need.
