Aramid Application Features - Reinforcement

1. Non-conductive

In modern projects, such as subways, tunnels, electrified railways, industrial plants, etc., there are high requirements for insulation. In the reinforcement of these projects, aramid has an absolute advantage, which also provides an optimal opportunity for selection.

2. Good corrosion resistance

In particular, it is resistant to strong alkali corrosion, which is unmatched by other FRP composite materials. Due to the strong corrosion of concrete structure in seawater, mainly because it contains more chloride ions, it causes carbonization of concrete and corrosion and expansion of steel bars. Therefore, in the reinforcement and protection of some seaport terminal projects, aramid fiber is the best choice.

3. Good impact resistance

Since the elastic modulus of aramid fiber is 118Gpa, the ductility is particularly good, and its elongation is 1.8%, so it was originally used as military products in foreign countries, such as body armor. It is used to reinforce some structures with strict impact resistance requirements, such as bridge piers in the main channel.

4. Good dynamic load and fatigue resistance

Although the tensile strength of carbon fiber is high, it can only withstand long-term static load because it is a brittle material. If it is subjected to long-term dynamic loads, its strength cannot be guaranteed. Aramid fibers are not subject to this limitation. In the early days, it was mainly used in military products and was the main material of body armor. Due to its good toughness, its corresponding fatigue resistance is very good. In addition, the shear resistance of aramid fiber is also the strongest of all FRP materials.

5. Convenient construction

Mainly the following steps, surface treatment - brushing primer - bottom impregnating resin - sticking aramid fabric - outer impregnating resin - surface protection, the operation is very simple. No large-scale lifting machinery is required, and chamfering is generally not required. The chamfering of the square column is only 10 ram, because the aramid fiber is an organic material, it has good wettability with the resin, and the curing time is very short. That's a few hours, while similar other fibers take one to two weeks.
