KEVLAR Plain Weave Fabric

This KEVLAR® 49 fabric is ideal for impact applications requiring exceptional specific tensile strength and minimal weight. KEVLAR® in the plain weave form is the most popular KEVLAR® in composite materials. Although it is a bit stiff for highly contoured molds, it provides uniform performance, maximum stability and easy surface finish characteristics.

Its good stiffness, light weight, and high abrasion resistance make it ideal for applications such as kayaks, canoes, high-speed boats, aircraft fuselage panels, pressure vessels, sports equipment, wind turbines, and more. In general, however, KEVLAR® is not suitable for applications requiring compressive strength.

Plain weave is designed for use with resin systems such as our System 2000 Epoxy.

Once cut, the twill fabric tends to unravel due to the loose weave. Always use our #1735-A Perfect Line Tape, or Dritz Fray Check, #1713-A before cutting.

KEVLAR® is difficult to cut, sand and machine. Consider a specialized serrated pair of scissors, such as our #2731-A.

Our KEVLAR® is not for sewing.

Unused KEVLAR® should be stored away from UV light. It degrades under UV light.

Cutting composite grade KEVLAR® can be a headache! Serrated scissors are designed for precise, clean cuts on the toughest fabrics. The unique design features a serrated lower blade to hold the fabric in place, and a smooth upper blade for cutting.
